The Weymouth and Portland region is celebrating the decision to award the 2012 Olympics to London. The Dorset coast will host the sailing events at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy.


Weymouth and Portland will host the sailing events, based around the National Sailing Academy at Osprey Quay on Portland, which was developed from the old naval station. It was officially opened by the Princess Royal last month.

The decision was greeted with wild celebrations in Weymouth and Portland - as well as crowds gathered at the Academy, windsurfers even did somersaults on the waters of Portland Harbour where the sailing events will be held.
